Rita McKenny Celebrates 80th Birthday in New Milford

Rita McKenny and her family celebrated her 80th birthday this weekend (her actual birthday was Nov. 21) at her new home at Chestnut Grove in New Milford.  Rita moved from the Isle in October, and her daughter Patty Silva said she is very happy in her new digs in congregate housing. “She spent 53 years on the Isle,” Patty said, “She loves her new home and doesn’t have a concern in the world.”  Rita’s address is Chestnut Grove, #239, New Milford 06776, and her phone number is 860-355-1771.

Isle’s Three Lady Rebels Triumph!

Hope you’ve all noticed the pictures of Isle swimmers all over the pages of the Citizen News in recent weeks.  And now our three New Fairfield High School Lady Rebels swimmers and divers have all qualified for Class S State Championships.  Junior Molly Helmes placed 7th in diving recently at Wesleyan University.  Senior Jen Poole, who is a co-captain, made All State for 100 -yard butterfly and placed 3rd in the 100 fly. She was also part of a 200-yard medley relay that placed 4th.  Sophomore Casey O'Connor placed 10th in 200-yard IM,and 12th in 100-yard backstroke. She swam in a 400-yard free relay that came in 6th. The Lady Rebels placed 3rd overall in Class S swimming and diving.

Eyeflash:  Ian Maitland, a junior at New Fairfield High, was pictured this week in the Citizen News starring in “The Man Who Came to Dinner.” Ian played Sheridan Whiteside, the guest who was described by writer Tanya Parker as having a “sharp tone and frowning expressions” which “complement his rough insults.” That sounds like a rave review to us!

Eyeflash:  Other New Fairfield Rebel athletes featured in the paper in recent weeks included Brogan Dale leading the Rebel charge in field hockey and Christopher Poole running cross-country.

Newsletter will be monthly now  through next June.
