Candlewood Isle Fun Run Aug. 28:  From the Fun Run Committee:  “The Candlewood Isle Fun Run is back!  This year's run will take place Sunday, August 28.  Registration opens at 8 a.m. Races begin at 8:30 a.m., and continental breakfast will be served at 10 a.m.  For those who have never attended the Fun Run of years past, the concept is simple: Create a team, put your sneakers on and come run in a relay race.  Each member of the team will run one loop with a baton and hand off to the next team member.  The fastest team wins.  The age groups for the run are as follows: 6 and under (shortest run), 7-10’s (shorter run), 11-15’s (short run) and 16+ (5-mile-run total; each person does 1 mile approximately, the distance is from the Clubhouse to the Post Office and back).  For teams 11 and up, you must have one walker on your team.  In other words, at least one of your team members will have to walk their leg of the race.  Please create teams of 5 people and select a team captain.  Register your team via email at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or sign up at the Post Office.
The cost for the race and breakfast will be $10.  That translates into $5 entry fee for the race and $5 for breakfast (4 and under will eat free).  We encourage everyone on the Isle to come and cheer on the runners and then join us for breakfast.  You don't have to race to be part of the fun!  You can also just be a runner if that's what works for you.
The deadline to enter is Monday, August 22nd.  Team captain should drop off team's entire payment with Veronica Rubio at 61 Lake Drive North - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  to coordinate drop -ff.  Non -runners may also drop off payment prior to the deadline.  The money confirms your attendance and allows the Fun Run Committee to plan the race and breakfast accordingly.  We look forward to your participation.
Fun Run Committee:  Pat Della Valle, Maureen Kenna, Jane Rome, Veronica Rubio, Melissa Stewart.
Labor Day Family Barbeque Saturday, Sept. 3:  This afternoon event begins earlier than in past years.  1 p.m.-2 p.m. APPETIZERS, 2 p.m.-5 p.m. BBQ, 5 p.m.-6 p.m. DESSERT. A-L, PLEASE BRING AN APPETIZER TO SHARE; M-Z, PLEASE BRING A DESSERT TO SHARE.   HOSED BY CASTELLANO, COSGROVE, DELLAVALLE, HERBERTSON, ROME AND SCHOFIELD FAMILIES.

Book Club:  Book Club is reading “Stoner,” by John Williams. The New York Times Sunday Book Review rhapsodizes:  “John Williams’s ‘Stoner’ is something rarer than a great novel — it is a perfect novel, so well told and beautifully written, so deeply moving, that it takes your breath away. Ignored on publication in 1965, a clamorous year, it has been kept alive by enthusiasts who go into print every decade to rediscover it.” “Stoner” is the story of “the son of hard-working, dirt-poor farmers who inherits their taciturn stoicism, born of sheer adversity — their hardened accommodation to the whims of fate. William Stoner enters the state university in 1910 to study agriculture, but his life changes irrevocably when he comes upon literature in a sophomore survey course. Following Stoner through two world wars, the novel captures both the fire of his inarticulate passion and the glowing embers it leaves behind.”  The book club will meet Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Paula Zoland, 2 Willow Lane.  RSVP to Paula at 203-746-6921.

Tremendous Turnout at Springsteen Dance
Gordon Pascale writes: “The Springsteen dance was a big success. The turnout was tremendous; everyone was there. Attendance was so big that we called Scotty from Biscotti's to bring more food.  He said, "I'll be there in 10 minutes." The two professional bartenders did a phenomenal job. The band "Tramps Like Us" rocked the house all night, and everyone was dancing the entire time. The Foley sisters served the food, and the Pascales manned the door. The Pascales and the Foleys would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make this party a big success and a very memorable event for Candlewood Isle. As Billy Foley said, ‘It's all about the memories.’"

2011 Camp Season Ends with Song

Lisa Elsberry writes:  “The 2011 Camp season ended with a gala performance ‘Music Through the Decades!’ The Clubhouse was packed, standing-room only with parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, campers, counselors, friends and neighbors all excited to watch the musical performances of each age group of campers. Never a disappointment, these talented and enthusiastic campers, brought down the house with each choreographed and synchronized song.  These are the memories of a lifetime for these young campers.  Conversations of plans for ‘next year's performance’ can already be heard on the playground in anticipation of Camp 2012!

A big thank you to Patrick Johnson, father of K-Bounder camper Reid Johnson and CI board member in charge of maintenance, for taking all the wonderful and creative photos, and to Anne Butorac, mother of Tot camper Isaac and K-Bounder camper Evelyn, and 2011 camp committee member,  for setting up the Shutterfly account.

“The 2011 Camp Committee would like to thank all CI residents for supporting our summer youth program and sending your children to camp. Thanks to those who took the time to fill out the end- of-year camp evaluation sheets, Camp 2012 is already in the planning stages.
